Battle Description
Each side deployed into relatively simple formations. The Romulans adopted a symmetrical formation, with two destroyers close on each flank of their battle cruiser, and the older cruiser trailing due to is slower speed. The Klingons moved their old D-11 destroyers out on their right flank, while the D-19s formed a ragged line on the left.
The low speed each force used while deploying prevented any early weapons fire, and almost had the forces out of sensor lock range.
As they advanced, the Romulans maintained their formation, but had the flanking pairs of destroyers move out from the battle cruiser.
The Klingon D-11s raced ahead to try to get their limited weapons into range. The D-19s advanced slower, applying more power to their shields and weapons.
The initial exchange of fire went in favor of the Klingons. The Romulans hit the Mortification, and although they penetrated its shields, they did no more than scratch its paint. The Klingons were luckier, with an unexpectedly high hit percentage for the range. They punched the shields of the Godzilla and scored a good bit of damage to its superstructure.
The Klingons continued a steady advance. The Mortification, being targeted by all of the Romulan ships, backed away from the enemy.
The Romulans suddenly threw all sense to the wind. The battle cruiser and cruiser continued to charge after the Mortification, despite all the Klingon fleet being better targets. All four destroyers cloaked. Although this allowed the two on the Romulan left flank to get behind the D-11s, it substantially reduced the power available to their weapons.
The exchange of fire again went against the Romulans. At long range they were unable to do significant damage to the Mortification, and they could not effectively hit the ships which were closer to them. The Klingons unleashed all their weaponry into the Godzilla. It did not enjoy the attention, taking very serious hits to its superstructure, notable damage to its warp engines, and shield generator. More importantly, its sensors were knocked off line, so that it was unable to fire a portion of its weapons.
The Romulans were now doomed. Their destroyers turned to try to chase the faster Klingon destroyers. Their cruiser rushed after the Mortificatin (apparently still obsessed with this one ship). The Godzilla moved away from the fight to try to repair its sensors.
Exactly what the Klingons were doing at this point is still unclear. All of the destroyers engaged with the Romulan destroyers rushed away from their enemies, and pointed their main weapons at empty space. The Mortification, long the target of the Romulan fleet, advanced.
As usual, the Romulans could not hit the broadside of a barn while leaning against it. Most of their photon torpedoes missed, as did the Rhodan's only launch of its plasma weapon. Fire from the Mortification increased the insult to the Godzilla as the sensors were further damaged.
The Klingons, apparently remembering that they were supposed to shoot at their enemies, turned their destroyers around and unleashed their disrupters and photon torpedoes at the Romulan destroyers. The Mortification also let its torpdeoes go at the Godzilla.
The Romulan destroyers were effectively surrounded. They fired off most of their weapons, but still could not hit, even at close ranges.
The Romulans' doom was now clear. The Godzilla went dead in space. The Geidra had both warp engines and its impulse engine smashed (although it quickly got a bit of power back from the impulse engine). The Mothra suffered severe damage to its superstructure, but it continued to be operational. The Kong took a series of hits, most of which went into the effort of ripping its starboard engine completely off of the ship.
At this point the Romulan player conceded the game. His main fighting unit, the battle cruiser, was dead. One destroyer effectively had no power, another was crippled, and a third could not take another hit to its superstructure. Klingon damage was moderate, with two D-19s showing some damage to their engines and superstructure, and one D-11 with serious damage.
